People's Daily: X-in Miao Charity Takes a Lead-in Scoliosis Treatment

From August 24th to 26th, the News Front "Forging a New Era · Opening Up a New Future" interviewed X-in Miao Charity about their interdisciplinary approach towards their center's screening department, operating department, traction department, and conservative treatments department. In this interview, government officials had visited the center assisting their welfare and helping them advocate the public about scoliosis (especially in Guangzhou) to adolescences. X-in Miao and their project "Teletubbies" have touched every doctor and nurse who's heard their stories.

Through X-in Miao Charity screening project, we found that treatment should be the ultimate goal. Since 2013, Professor Yang Jun Lin has  establish XTS including scoliosis screening, diagnosis and treatment , which has carried out more than 7000 cases of conservative treatments  as well as more than 400 successful cases of 40-60° with non-surgery treatments. Professor Li Fo Bao, the Discipline Leader of the Department of Orthopedics and Microbiology at the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University; and Honorary Director of the Guangdong Xinmiao Scoliosis Prevention Center, pointed out that one of the clinical innovation is to minimize operational treatments. The X-in Miao Charity has launched public and welfare conservatives to patients with lower socioeconomic backgrounds.

Scoliosis is a common disabling and lethal disease. The incidence rate of the population is 2-3% in international reports. There are millions of scoliosis patients in China, and 70-80% are young people aged 10-18. The youth population is at the peak of growth and development. If the treatment is not found in time, it is easy to cause appearance deformities and organ dysfunction. This is a great burden and a potential danger. Scoliosis has become a major public health problem affecting the healthy growth of adolescents in China.

Professor Yang expresses that severe scoliosis is a high-risk operation. Only experts or those with surgical experience can  retain solid outcomes. The scoliosis screening system must maintain a degree of professionalism, accuracy, and efficiency to obtain maximum results. He believes that scoliosis experts must carry out effective treatments before the disease erodes. Comprehensive preventions are intricate work. It requires professional screening experts to work together.
